Threads

I don’t forget names,
faces, places;
I don’t forget the flesh,
the bone structure,
the lines in the face;
I don’t forget the skin, the hair, the height, the eyes,
the mouth, the ears…

braces!

I forget the human.

the signal, the emotion,
the heat caused by standing close–
or passing by;
I forget the rhythm of the heart–
the fluctuations in the rhythm of my heart
caused by the rhythm of their hearts.
I don’t forget their shape,
I forget the invisible threads that draw me close to them;

I don’t forget shapes,
I forget scents.
