Beauty, not a thing of mine

I think,
I wasn’t made for things like this!
For piano sounds,
flute’s tweets,
or to witness the break–
of a violin string.

I wasn’t made for laughs, cries,
or to be there
when a mother
after the loss of her child,
breaks in tears–
after a part of her soul dies.

I wasn’t made for kindness
sincerity, or hours of silence
that two souls share.
For when they happen
there’s beauty entwined.
And beauty, it’s not a thing of mine.
