a small fragment from a small dream

“You know, things are really simple. I mean really, really simple,” I said while facing towards the bartender, “but we try so hard, we strain ourselves so much to complicate things and make our life harder than it is. Do you have any idea why this happens, any idea at all?”
He leaned towards me, and in a silent voice said, “My friend, life would be really boring if things were to remain simple, that’s why we need that kind of complication in our lives. Truth be told, we would die if it weren’t for those little complications.”
I nodded, as though I knew what he was saying, when in fact, I had no idea! I enjoyed that happy life I had lived up until now. Just me, a cup of tea in my hand and a book in the other. My eyes wandering through pages of books and occasionally staring toward the square and its people. That was my life, with all its goods and bads. Nothing else.
Then he continued. “Here, I have the chance to meet all kinds of people, and I mean, all kinds. Wise, smart, dumb… and they all have the same things in common: they are broken, tired, and confused. But not you. You have something else my friend, you seem to be frightened, as though you are going to be hanged tomorrow,” Then he paused. “You are not going to be hanged tomorrow, right? Like those revolution guys yesterday!”
That made me smile a bit. But I had no idea of those revolution guys he mentioned. “Nah, don’t worry, I won’t die tomorrow,” I said . “And as for the fear part, yes, you may be right. I feel kind of afraid, but this is not fear, this is something else! It feels like I am on my way to evolve, to morph, and until earlier today I was just fine…”
“That’s what love does to people,” He said, and further continued, “It breaks them down, it shatters their body to the last piece and then it reshapes them. To some it gives wings, and to others, who are less fortunate, it gives them tiny legs to crawl, but definitely, it changes them. I don’t know what you are going through at the moment, but try to keep your head up my friend, and maybe you will be lucky enough to receive wings, instead of legs.”
